KPW packed out Upper Hutt's Cossie Club on Sunday 23rd September for its first show at the magnificent venue. Wrestling fans both old and new clamoured for the finest New Zealand professional wrestling action, and KPW enlisted talent from NZWPW to give the fans what they were after!
STIX versus SHANE "Demolition Man" CARVER (with ATH)
Having been enlisted by greasy manager ATH - maybe even as a prospect for ATH's stable "the Elite" - Shane Carver made his KPW debut firmly on the side of himself, readying his rage to be unleashed upon his opponent. By contrast, Stix entertained the crowd with a thrilling drum solo before entering the ring. The "Demolition Man" was off the leash before Referee Zac Corona could even ring the bell, attacking Stix to gain the advantage. Determined for a win in his debut, Carver kept up the pressure with a relentless attack that on Stix's back which owed more to his characteristic savagery than any thought for tactics. ATH had obviously made a coup by signing the phenomenal new talent, but it remained to be seen whether Shane Carver's rage could be channelled into a coherent strategy. To the thrill of the raucous fans, Stix rallied with their support and managed to catch ATH's protege unawares with a crucifix for the win by pinfall.
WINNER: STIX beat Shane Carver (with ATH) with a crucifix pinfall
Two-on-One Handicap match: T-REX versus TEAM DIABLO (Doctor Diablo and El Condor)
Such was the rage of the "Grumpasorous" that the only opponent who could stand a chance against the young monster was in fact a team unto itself - that pair of wacky luchadors, Doctor Diablo and El Condor of Team Diablo. It was clear that T-Rex cared neither for the Cossie Club the fans or his opponents. A swift rock-paper-scissors game between the luchadors decided that El Condor would begin for his team. A lockup established - unsurprisingly - that the yellow-and-green clad behemoth enjoyed the strength advantage. Undeterred, El Condor gamely went for the lock-up once more and tied up T-Rex with a standing ude-garame (bent armlock). The larger man was barely mildly inconvenienced, throwing off El Condor with ease. A quick consul with Doctor Diablo resulted with El Condor deciding to use his speed. The yellow-and-black masked man ducked under T-Rex's lockup attempt, running the ropes for momentum and launching himself into a flying cross bodyblock. Sadly for him, T-Rex was literally and figuratively unmoved, catching the smaller man in mid-air to the awed surprise of the fans.
Seeing a chance, Doctor Diablo invoked "lucha rules" regarding tags and snuck into the ring, dropkicking El Condor such that the T-Rex was knocked off his feet and El Condor placed perfectly for a pinfall attempt. T-Rex used his prodigious strength to launch El Condor off him, but Team Diablo unleashed a blitzkrieg of near pinfalls on their fallen foe, even throwing hapless referee Danny Sol atop T-Rex and making the count themselves! Team Diablo rejoiced to the cheers of the crowd and their apparent advantage, but an utterly furious T-Rex flattened both masked men with a double clothesline that signaled playtime was over! El Condor retreated to the outside as T-Rex singled out Doctor Diablo for some special punishment. Making sure that the whole audience could see, T-Rex flattened the Doctor with a hug forearm smash that left Diablo limp and senseless. Unluckily for Doctor Diablo, he recovered just in time to be hauled up and brought crashing down once more in a huge side slam!
Seeking to firmly assert his dominance and put away his opponent, T-Rex clamped on a vicious sleeper that had Doctor Diablo fading fast. Referee Danny Sol was right there to register any submission, but the Doctor managed to find the support of the fans and desperately battled back. A make-or-break jawjacker enabled Doctor Diablo to break the hold and the luchador used the last of his strength to launch himself across the ring to make the tag to El Condor. A revitalised El Condor burst into the ring, battering T-Rex with blows that seemed to have no effect. The masked man ran the ropes for an all-out attack, but T-Rex had learned from earlier in the match. He met his masked opponent with a boot to the abdominals that doubled up El Condor, then brought the luchador up and down with a massive powerbomb that shook the ring! Seeing his team-mate flattened, Doctor Diablo found his second wind and threw himself at T-Rex, seeking to knock out the big, bad "Grumpasorous" with a forearm smash off the ropes. T-Rex was more than ready again and hauled Doctor Diablo up and down onto the fallen El Condor with a spinebuster that sealed the fate of Team Diablo. T-Rex completed his crushing victory by pinning both men with one massive foot.
WINNER: T-REX beat both of Team Diablo by powerbombing El Condor in the centre of the ring and then planting Doctor Diablo atop his fallen team-mate with a spinebuster, pinning both opponents.
Special Attraction NZWPW match: Co-NZWPW Tag Team Champion "Adrenaline Rush" TAYLOR ADAMS versus JONNY IDOL
As a special treat for the fans at the Cossie Club, NZWPW wrestlers were on hand to "strut their stuff" and ensure that the wrestling fans were treated to as wide a range of New Zealand talent as possible. Departing slightly from his match speciality, in a special NZWPW Attraction match, fan favourite co-NZWPW Tag Team Champion "Adrenaline Rush" took on the flamboyant and dastardly Jonny Idol. Having battled each other before and both young men being quick learners, both wrestlers were extra determined to showcase NZWPW's talent to the fans and outdo the other at the same time. In the end, Idol's high-risk manoeuvre from the second turnbuckle failed to pay dividends, as Adams caught his opponent in a spinebuster and planted him for the pinfall victory.
WINNER: TAYLOR ADAMS caught Johnny Idol with a spinebuster for the win by pinfall.
Tag Team Match: WILD WILLZ and "Marvellous" MARK FREEMANTLE (with Mister Samoa) versus "The Fixation" JIMMY FOXX and KING WILBA (with Queen Hollie)
Having sadly injured his knee recently, crashing through the Samoan jungle to hunt wild pig for Wild Willz's (large) family, the massive Mister Samoa had not been cleared to wrestle in this tag team match. However, rather than let down the fans, he instead took the opportunity to introduce them to his "little friend"... Canadian-born Mark Freemantle! Foxx and King Wilba cared not a jot, as they were fully prepared to demolish anyone put in their way.
Foxx and Freemantle started out for their respective teams and quickly impressed the Cossie Club fans with their technical wizardry, but Foxx showed his true colours by using the ropes to force a cheap break out of a Freemantle headlock. Frustrated that the audience failed to realise he was (supposedly) the better wrestler - if not the better man - "the Fixation" showed no respect to the Canadian-infused wrestler, "paintbrushing" him on the back of the head and shouting scorn. Fired up rather than intimidated, Freemantle fought back with a clothesline and a dropkick that almost changed Foxx's bad attitude. Showing that the new team of allies could work just as well as their well-estabished opponents, Freemantle tagged in Wild Willz and bearhugged Foxx aloft so that Wild Willz could deliver a Hart Attack flying clothesline to the trapped Fixation! Giving Foxx no time to recover, Freemantle tied up Foxx with a Boston Crab, allowing Wild Willz to run the ropes and deliver a knee to the exposed head of Jimmy Foxx!
Pressing the advantage, Wild Willz whipped Foxx from pillar to corner post. The Samoan hunter trapped the Fixation in the corner and delivered a 10-punch, with the Cossie Club fans counting along with the fan favourite. Wild Willz then whipped his opponent to the opposite corner and followed up with a monkeyflip. However, Jimmy Foxx had taken such a beating that he appeared to be completely helpless and unresponsive. Referee Zac Corona confirmed that Foxx appeared to be down and out, but as a confused Freemantle consulted with his tag team partner, Foxx showed that he'd been "playing possum" and blindsided Mark Freemantle. Foxx tagged in the massive King Wilba, who proceeded to use his weight to his team's advantage by crushing Freemantle in the corner with a pair of avalanches, cutting off any hope of the smaller man mounting an effective rally.
Foxx was tagged in and slammed Freemantle into a neutral corner with the Tree of Woe, keeping up the pressure with a brutal yet innovative backbreaker-sideslam combination for a near fall on the valiant Freemantle. Showing their cunning and lack of sportsmanship, Foxx taunted Wild Willz into entering the ring; while referee Zac Corona was tied up ejecting the Samoan Hunter from the ring, Foxx and King Wilba took the opportunity they'd created to double-team Freemantle with near impunity. With King Wilba in the ring once more, things looked bleak for Freemantle as he fell prey to another battering corner avalanche from the big, bad King. Sensing the end was near, Freemantle dug deep and fought back against the massive monarch, but was cut short and brought down with a vertical splash from King Wilba.
Eager to pick the bones of Mark Freemantle, and never more dangerous when his opponent is down, Foxx eagerly tagged into the fray. Hauling Freemantle aloft, Foxx once more went for the Tree of Woe, but Freemantle blocked the move and reversed into a stunning tornado DDT to knock Foxx senseless "for reals"! The race was on to make the tag, and Foxx did himself no favours by stumbling first into an empty neutral corner, then to the wrong corner (to be met by a right hand from Wild Willz), tying himself up fatally and enabling Freemantle to make the all-important tag to Wild Willz! Let off the leash and with the fans behind him, Wild Willz brought the pain to Jimmy Fox with a side slam and his dancing headbutt for a two-count. King Wilba came in and attempted to turn the tide back in his team's favour, but fell victim to the crisp, fast-paced teamwork of Freemantle and Wild Willz! With King Wilba laid out, Wild Willz went to the top rope for his top-rope splash, but Queen Hollie then earned her keep by getting up on the apron and having choice words with Referee Zac Corona. Unseen by the referee - but not by the audience - Jimmy Fox retrieved his feared kendo stick and knocked Wild Willz from the top tope to the canvas far below. Tagging himself in, Foxx splattered Wild Willz with a tombstone piledriver for the tainted pinfall victory.
WINNERS: "The Fixation" JIMMY FOXX and KING WILBA (with Queen Hollie) beat Mark Freemantle and Wild Willz (with Mister Samoa) when Jimmy Foxx hit a tombstone piledriver on Wild Willz for pinfall victory
Women's Triple Threat Match: QUEEN HOLLIE (KPW) versus SCARLETT (NZWPW) versus LOLLIE LANE (NZWPW)
This match was yet another treat for the Cossie Club fans, as the finest female talent from NZWPW were more than ready to show the fans what they could do! Scarlett dismissed the interest of the fans, but Lollie Lane was more than popular with the fans with her sweet nature. Queen Hollie looked less than pleased with the calibre of the Cossie Club fans, and seemed to still have issues with KPW Head Referee Daniel Martins. As the match began, Scarlett and Lollie Lane locked up and battled for dominance. Well aware that the first person to score the fall would win the match, Queen Hollie hung back and let the two NZWPW wrestlers battle it out, obviously intending to "pick up the pieces" when her two opponents were too incapacitated to retaliate.
Lollie Lane looked to have the advantage with a hiptoss on Scarlett, then tying up her opponent with an Indian deathlock, but Queen Hollie was forever hovering nearby to break up any pinfall attempt to keep herself in the match. Seeking to end Lollie Lane's advantage, Scarlett and Queen Hollie joined forces and flattened Lollie Lane with a double clothesline. However, the unholy alliance didn't last long, with the action spilling to the outside of the ring. Queen Hollie became embroiled in a footrace with Scarlett on the outside, Lollie Lane perhaps wisely remaining on the inside of the ring. Being drawn to the edge of the ring to check on her opponents, Scarlett took the opportunity to stun-gun poor Lollie Lane on the top rope.
Back in the ring now, Lollie Lane managed to recover and battled Scarlett for the advantage, but again Queen Hollie was always there to break up any pinning predicament. Frustrated beyond measure, Queen Hollie stomped majestically from the ring all the way back to the commentary position. Before anyone could stop her, she grabbed a clipboard and stormed back to the ring through past the protesting fans. In the ring, Lollie Lane had managed to take down Scarlett and had clamped on a leglock, only for her to be wide open to Queen Hollie smacking her across the back with the clipboard! An irate Head Referee Daniel Martins intervened, but was himself attacked by Queen Hollie, leaving the official no choice but to throw the match out. Queen Hollie further signaled her displeasure by slapping Head Referee Daniel Martins (and not for the first time)! Scarlett and Lollie Lane were disappointed the match had ended in such an inconclusive manner, but the fans were still delighted at the NZWPW wrestlers' efforts and showed their appreciation!
WINNER: the match was ruled a NO CONTEST when Queen Hollie struck first Lollie Lane, then Head Referee Daniel Martins with a clipboard.
CHARLIE ROBERTS (with Alex "Danger" Donahue) versus WHETU the Maori Warrior
Rodeo Drive sought to continue their rampage through the KPW roster by taking on long-time foe Whetu, the Maori Warrior. The contempt that the "A-Listers" felt for the fans was overshadowed by their support of the man who brings the mana, Whetu. Long-time KPW fans knew that "Danger" Donahue was often the "third man" at ringside and knew that this encounter could easily be two-on-one whenever Rodeo Drive are involved. From the outset, Whetu showed himself to be a step ahead of Roberts, despite the "Ayatollah of High Rollers" having access to the best trainers and supplements. Whetu upset Roberts' gameplan with a trifecta of armbars, keeping Roberts grounded and attacking his arm. Roberts fought back to his feet, but was flung from one side of the ring to the other by Whetu and battered with a pair of flying vertical splashes in the ring corners. Roberts staggered free, only to be caught by Whetu taking to the air with a flying cross bodyblock which knocked Roberts off his high horse and give "Danger" Donahue a conniption fit on the outside.
With the audience firmly behind the Maori Warrior, Whetu took to the air again with another flying cross bodyblock, but was caught by the "King of Bling" and dropped into a vicious gutbuster that looked to have potentially torn some of Whetu's abdominal muscles. Laying up the Maori Warrior in the corner, Roberts stopped to have choice words with KPW Head Referee Daniel Martins. This distraction allowed "Danger" Donahue to earn his keep by choking the helpless Whetu behind the referee's back. Taking Whetu to the canvas, Roberts exhibited his vicious streak by clamping on a longbow backbreaker, further tearing at Whetu's abdominals. Failing to make the brave Maori Warrior submit, Roberts the used his own body weight as a weapon with a running senton splash for a close two count. Frustrated at Whetu's resilience, Roberts missed a clothesline and so left himself wide open for a sunset flip from Whetu that nearly ended the match.
Seeking to recover his stride and play the numbers game, Roberts draped Whetu over the bottom rope and once more held a frank exchange of views with the referee, enabling "Danger" Donahue to infuriate the fans by again choking Whetu. Firmly in the driver's seat, Roberts scored big with a vertical suplex and kept up the pressure on Whetu with a standing armbar that also pulled at Whetu's already-battered abdominal muscles. The Maori Warrior brought the mana and fired back with the help of the fans, but "Danger" Donahue proved himself "M.V.P." for Rodeo Drive by distracting referee Daniel Martins, allowing Roberts to regain the advantage. Stunned and offering little resistance, Whetu was hauled up and down with a devastating back suplex. Rallying in desperation, Whetu went for broke with a high-risk moonsault, but came up short when Charlie Roberts rolled clear. A furious criss-cross exchange between the two competitors lead to a sickening head clash that knocked them down!
Surprising the audience and delighting "Danger" Donahue, Charlie Roberts managed to kip-up at the count of seven. Whetu also made it to his feet and went for Utu (swinging bulldog), but Roberts had that devastating move well scouted and instead launched Whetu across the ring. A second successful attempt looked to have the match won for the Maori Warrior, but "Danger" Donahue successfully distracted the referee such that the pinfall attempt could not be counted. Things were confused enough when suddenly KPW Champion the Technician invaded the ring to attack Whetu, seeking vengeance on the man who shaved his precious locks after winning their previous match. Not even "Danger" Donahue could keep such a development from Head Referee Daniel Martins, and the official had no option but to call an end to the match. Whetu and the Technician were both now involved in a pull-apart brawl, with wrestlers spilling out of the locker room and into the ring in an attempt to restore order. Rodeo Drive beat a retreat to the locker room, leaving chaos in their wake (as usual). Infuriated with the interference, Whetu challenged The Technician to a KPW Title match at "Halloween Howl 6" on October 26th!
WINNER: WHETU beat Charlie Roberts (with Alex "Danger" Donahue) by disqualification when the Technician ran into attack Whetu.
Grudge match: KPW Champion THE TECHNICIAN versus KADE MORGAN "3G"
These two competitors have a storied history as former tag team partners and even former tag team champions. However, there was now nothing between them except air and opportunity. Though the Technician's KPW Championship was not at stake, each competitor wanted to beat the other so badly that the promise of "bragging rights" was more than sufficient. The two began the match in a surprisingly "civil" manner with a technical exchange that established the Technician's extensive amateur wrestling background and Kade Morgan's third generation professional wrestling pedigree. Morgan looked to have gained the advantage with a headlock takedown, but the Technician retreated to the outside of the ring, determined to have things proceed at this pace. Morgan's desire to victory would not be denied and he brought the KPW champion into the ring "the hard way", pulling him over the top rope!
Frustrated and looking for a shortcut, the Technician went to the eyes. He followed up with a snapmare and dropkick on the temporarily blinded Morgan. The Technician then clamped Morgan in a chinlock, clearly loving the fact he was in control. Using his power and determination, Morgan fought back to his feet but the Technician was ready with a swinging neckbreaker that scored a two-count. Continuing his assault on Morgan's neck, the Technician clamped the prone "3G" into a dragon sleeper, then hauled him aloft into a flying neckbreaker, which scored another near fall. Showing his ability to absorb damage, Morgan held on to the KPW champion with a back waistlock and attempted a German/belly-to-back suplex, but in the blink of an eye the Technician reversed the move into a stunning DDT!
Loving his job, the Technician further punished his opponent's neck with a merciless neck-vice. With the weakened third generation wrestler on the canvas, the Technician sealed his advantage with a duo of jumping legdrops. However, his characteristic cockiness made him come unstuck when an attempted elbow drop from the second turnbuckle missed the mark. Fired up with the support of the audience, Morgan fought back with a butterfly suplex. Showing that the Technician was not the only innovator of offence, Kade Morgan stunned the Technician by hitting a rolling fireman's carry slam straight into a second-rop moonsault for a near pinfall of his own! Morgan's strength was on show with a delayed vertical suplex that had the bruised Technician retreating to the outside once more. However, the KPW champ found no respite from Morgan's aerial attack as the third generation wrestler took to the air, taking the fight to his hated opponent with a flying bodypress off the top rope to the floor far below!
Back in the ring, Morgan attempted to follow up with another high risk manoeuvre off the top rope, but the Technician got his second wind and "popped up" the turnbuckles, stunning Morgan with some vicious forearms and hitting a massive top rope superplex that had both men down. Morgan managed to get to his feet first, but Head Referee Daniel Martins got too close to a bodyslam attempt and was knocked insensible. Nevertheless pressing the attack, Morgan went for his dreaded gourdbuster (front suplex). Appearing from the locker room, "The Fixation" Jimmy Foxx and Charlie Roberts of Rodeo Drive suddenly and devastatingly made their presence felt - Foxx let his dreaded kendo stick do the talking on Morgan's leg, causing "3G" to collapse. The attack left Morgan wide open for the Technician's Techniplex and the referee recovered in time to register the tainted pinfall victory.
WINNER: THE TECHNICIAN pinned Kade Morgan "3G" with the Techniplex (sitout exploder suplex) following interference from Charlie Roberts and Jimmy Foxx.
KPW Tag Team Championship Match: INFERNO and JONNIE JUICE versus H-FLAME and LAZARUS VOLT
Rather than being pleased to be back in Upper Hutt, Inferno raged against the "munters" in the audience, instantly earning their undying ire. So determined was Inferno to take more gold from H-Flame that the fiery one had brought back the very man he'd put out of KPW two years ago - Jonnie Juice! If anyone could unseat the KPW Tag Team champions, it would be this unholiest of alliances. Beginning for their respective teams, Jonnie Juice and "the international superstar" H-Flame fought for the early advantage with technical exchange, Juice showing no lack of the technical expertise following his two year absence from the ring. However, the challengers were beaten from the ring and H-Flame cleared the way for Lazarus Volt to fly over the top rope onto them with a flying bodyblock!
Back in the ring once more, tags were made for the respective teams and Inferno and Volt went one-on-one with Volt gaining the advantage with a pair of legdrops. The champions worked together as a well-oiled unit, tying up Inferno with wristlocks and using their own corner to their advantage, switching off quickly with attacks to the challenger's exposed ribs. The "little man from the big top" scored with a swinging neckbreaker on the fiery one for a near pinfall. H-Flame tagged in and locked up with his old foe - the man who ended his long KPW title reign - taking him down with a drop toe hold and keeping the fiery one off-balance with a front drop suplex. Lazarus Volt was then tagged in and then sadly things went awry for the defending champions when Volt's second rope Alabama Jam missed its target. In the ensuing confusion, the challengers switched off.
Juice showed his arrogance to Volt by mercilessly "paintbrushing" him, but this only served to infuriate the champion into retaliating. Juice hit a Russian legsweep and followed up with a pair of snap legdrops, showing himself to be on form. Inferno tagged in for the relentless challengers and kept Volt down with clubbing forearms. The fiery one clamped on a chinlock to dampen the ex-ringmaster's resolve, but Volt rallied with the support of the fans, running the ropes to cut Inferno in half with a clothesline to the midriff. Tags were made and H-Flame locked horns with Jonnie Juice, but was ejected from the ring, enabling the challengers to "mug" Lazarus Volt two-on-one. Juice managed to score a near fall on Volt and kept up the pressure by switching off to his tag team partner-in-crime Inferno, who hit his characteristic jumping elbow drop.
Jonnie Juice and Lazarus Volt went around once more from pillar to post, but Volt miscalculated a cross-corner charge and ate the sole of Juice's wresting boot, leaving the co-champion open for the Rejuicer (jumping DDT from the top rope) which scored a very close two-count. Inferno managed to get in some cheap shots on the downed Volt. Juice went back to his playbook by clamping Volt into a chinlock, making sure to illegally use the ring ropes for extra leverage. Eventually forced to break the hold, Juice tagged in Inferno, who proceeded to isolate Volt's arm with an armbar. The challengers isolated the battered limb and went to work, seeking a submission victory. Juice again attempted to weaken Volt with a chinlock, but the brave champion reached down deep into his energy reserves and fought to stay alive.
Inferno came in for his team and flattened Lazarus Volt with a massive bodyslam and elbow drop before handing things over to his tag team partner. Confident of victory, Jonnie Juice went up to the top rope, but his flying elbowdrop missed. This was the break the champions needed, and with the audience willing him on, brave Lazarus Volt succeeded in making the all-important tag to H-Flame. H-Flame exploded into the ring and parted Juice's quiff with a DDT; Inferno charged to the attack but ran straight into a massive powerslam for his troubles! Flying from the top rope himself, Lazarus Volt hit the High Voltage (top rope dropkick) on Inferno, which allowed H-Flame to catch Jonnie Juice with the Nuke (sunset flip powerbomb) for the win by pinfall, to the delight of the fans!
WINNERS: H-FLAME and LAZARUS VOLT retained the KPW Tag Team Championship against Jonnie Juice and Inferno when H-Flame pinned Juice with the Nuke (sunset flip powerbomb).
