INTERVIEW WITH "The Standard Hero" GRAHAM HUGHES

Graham HughesRecently at KPW "Fan Appreciation Night", the mystery opponent in the Triple Threat Match for the KPW championship and the mastermind behind the mind games and backstage assaults was revealed to be none other than Portsmouth native and England's finest, Graham Hughes! Though unsuccessful in his bid to down Number One Contender H-Flame and unseat the defending KPW Champion the Technician, Huighes showed the flashes of brilliance and ruthless aggression which have made KPW fans sit up and take notice. KPW interviewer Blair "the Flair" managed to intercept the Standard Hero as he was about to leave the venue, still nursing a sore head and back from the beating he'd taken from the Technician.

BLAIR "the FLAIR": So what propmted you to return to KPW after such an absence?

GRAHAM HUGHES: Essentially to act out my vengeance on those

BtF: Now, the last time we saw you, you were getting put through a table in Whanganui by (KPW alumni and ex-KPW Champion) Max Damage, isn't that right?

GH: That is true, a brutal over-reaction and a cowardly assault.

BtF: That's not the way I remember it at all!

GH: Then you're simply wrong. I was there. Anyway, my sabattical following that unfortunate incident was rather forced, because the terrible medical services in New Zealand simply can't compare with those in England. Because of this reason, I was forced to depart back to England for the expert medical attention and convalesence that I required following Mister Damage's assault.

BtF: And you came all the way back to New Zealand to challenge for the the KPW Championship?

GH: I do not forget and I do not forgive - it's a sign of weakness.

BtF: But why the decision to keep your identity secret? Why all those promos under a hood? Why all the John le Carre "cloak and dagger" business?

GH: You cannot fully prepare for an opponent if you do not know who that opponent will be. By keeping my identity secret, I prevented both champion the technician and challenger H-Flame from havign a complete gameplan, thereby giving me the psychological advantage going in to the Triple Threat Match. After all, I could plan for them, and there was no way they could plan for me.

BtF: So it was your idea to use those... I don't know, "druids" at the beginning of the main event? To confuse everyone? Including the commentators?

GH: Quite the master-stroke, n'est pas? Kept everyone guessing right up until the last second.

BtF: But the match didn't really go your way, did it?

GH: When you're in the ring with two such great competitors (international superstar and ex-KPW Champion H-Flame and Oceania Amateur Wrestling Championship Double Medal winner and defending KPW Champion the Technician), it doesn't always go your way. No matter. Those two know they've been in a fight.

BtF: I couldn't help but notice you used a metal plate to gain an advantage. I know you have tremendous wrestling ability, so why the need to use an "international object"?

GH: Why, to secure my position in the KPW main event. And by way of confirmation - confirmation to the dim-witted KPW fans that I am prepared to do anything to win the KPW Championship. It's just a matter of time, really.

BtF: Well, thank you for your time, I suppose, Mister Hughes.

GH: I am the Standard Hero, and as always, it has been your pleasure.

BtF: Well, I don't know if-

GH: Trust me - it HAS been your pleasure.
